The Voter Registration Card celebrates the 100th anniversary of the 19th amendment; however, it also raises concerns over access to voting and voting inequality, which still remains rampant today through gerrymandering, poll intimidation, voter registration issues, etc. Voting was part of the most contentious issues of 2020, so much so, that the former President Trump claimed unproven widespread voter fraud to the extent that he spurred conspiracy theories and encouraged rioters to storm the US capital during the certification of President Biden’s presidential win. Georgia saw a change in state voting preferences with the help of Stacey Abrams empowering voters and President Trump unscrupulously pressured Georgia’s Secretary of State to find votes in his favor. At this very moment, Republicans have successfully restricted voting access across the country and the Democratic party is desperately trying to change legislation policy in order to protect and widen voting rights. The Voter Registration Card kit is a way for collectors to express their experiences and concerns about voting rights.

ABOUT THE KIT PROJECT:

The Stitch n' Bitch DIY Embroidery Card Kit is a chance for embroiderers and concerned citizens to stab out stereotypes with humor and needle art when it comes to the treatment of minority demographics today. Katrina Majkut’s cross-stitch kit and those made with her collaborators attempt to insert feminism, humor and politics into contemporary mass-produced kits that continue to reassert cross-stitch as a passive, stereotypically gendered and conservative domestic craft. The kit also offers a wry narrative throughout the instructions outlining the challenges people face today. As a limited edition, the kit can be created or kept as a work of fine art.

Kit Includes: Aida Cloth, needle, DMC floss, sassy instructions (English and Spanish), a business card, all inside an archival plastic sleeve.

Not Included in Kit: A personal sense of humor or political and personal outrage; scissors or embroidery hoop.

Limited Edition of 50. Signed by Artist(s).
